The Illustrated Deck of Many Things
A downloadable game
The Paladin and the Wizard have cleared the last skeleton in the final chamber of the dungeon when they hear a mighty gasp from the Rogue. They turn and find him holding a marble case that fits perfectly on his hand. Only the Wizard can read the Elven runes engraved in the marble: "Deck of Many Things". Realisation comes to his exhausted mind a second too late. Before he can stop it, the Rogue has already opened the marble lid, and drawn his first card...
The Deck of Many Things is an iconic magic item from the most popular role-playing game of all time. The rules of how to use it in the current 5th edition of the game can be found in page 216 of their Systems Reference Document, that can be downloaded here.
For this project I've generated illustrations for each card using the Artificial Intelligence model called Midjourney.
In order to generate the pictures, a prompt was provided, which often consisted only of the description and mechanics of the specific card, for example, for The Moon, the prompt was:
Moon: You are granted the ability to cast the wish spell
With this prompt, Midjourney was able to create the following illustration:
Very cool, right?!
Using this technique I generated a full set of printable cards, representing the Deck of Many Things.
In the Download links you can download two pdfs (fronts and backs of the cards) to print your own physical version; or your can download the png images to use in your favourite Virtual Table Top platform.
